The Catalan Institute of Research for the Governance of the Sea (ICATMAR) is a collaboration organism between the Directorate-General for Maritime Policy and Sustainable Fisheries of the Catalan Government and the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC), through the Institute of Marine Sciences (ICM) of Barcelona. ICATMAR’s main objective is to provide quality scientific advice to the administration and society. ICATMAR consists of two services: the Fisheries Advisory Service, established in 2018, and the Operational Oceanography Service, established in 2023. Within the framework of the activities of the Operational Oceanography Service of ICATMAR, we are opening a selection process for three positions for the observation, analysis, and prediction program of the physical characteristics of the marine environment.

Description of required profiles

[ICT1] IT Systems Administrator. Responsibilities include the management, coordination, and maintenance of ICATMAR’s computer system – including an HPC infrastructure – optimizing system performance, and providing user support. We are looking for an individual with strong knowledge of Linux, networks, and storage. A degree in computer engineering or equivalent is required. Proficiency in English at level C1 or similar is essential. The salary range is €33,920 to €40,900 gross annually according to CSIC salary scales.

[OIT] Oceanographic Instrumentation Technician (2 positions). Tasks include the installation, calibration, maintenance, and repair of measurement instruments, as well as the supervision of data acquisition systems and quality controls of received data. Degrees in electronic, industrial, or ICT engineering are required. Proficiency in English at level C1 or similar is essential. Basic training in Occupational Risk Prevention and a driver’s license will be valued. The salary is €33,930 gross annually according to CSIC salary scales.

Workplace

The workplace will be at the headquarters of the Institute of Marine Sciences (CSIC) located at Passeig Marítim de la Barceloneta 37-49, 08003, Barcelona. Maintaining the observation network requires travel to the location where the instruments are located.

Contract duration

The contract duration will be until September 30, 2029, extendable in case of additional funding.

The selection process for the positions will be carried out through the CSIC job board (https://sede.csic.gob.es/servicios/formacion-y-empleo/bolsa-de-trabajo).
